Newly Elected Perth Mayor’s Comments

When Basil Zempalis made national headlines in October 2020 for his comments on-air (radio), the articles that followed were one-sided. Now, I am not a fan of Basil’s - the man is arrogant and out of touch on a lot of issues, but his comments did not warrant the uproar that occurred nationally, and particularly locally in Western Australia. His commentary regarding males and females and some of our biological bits were childish and poorly presented, but he has every right to say them. He has every right, just as we all do, to think what he wants to and to have the political convictions he chooses. Those rights are enshrined in law in Australia. The trans lobby’s aim to shut down all dissenting opinions and debate can only last so long. There are many more of us than there are of them.

From a Guardian article:

Within hours, a petition launched by Perth Scorpions Volleyball Club for Zempilas to stand down as mayor had garnered hundreds of signatures, and a “Stand Up to Transphobia, Protest Basil Zempilas” march had been scheduled for Saturday.

Can you all just calm the hell down? Seriously. Take a deep breath.

What a bunch of reactive, emotional, entitled, aggressive, loud and demanding bigots you are. Everyone in the world holds thousands and thousands of opinions, and guess what? So many of those opinions oppose yours. Get over it.

Another quote from the above article says “Condemnation was swift.” Yeah, but so was the outpouring of support for Basil and his comments, but the media didn’t want to include those details. Comments on local social media groups and pages were overwhelmingly in support of Basil’s comments and against the reaction from the trans lobby and media.

Gender identity ideology is not factual. It is pseudoscientific, ideological theory. The trans lobby is advancing a harmful and erosive ideology that only serves to strip safeguarding provisions and rights away from children, parents, girls and women. Every single ally of the trans lobby should hang their heads in shame for the damage they are causing and supporting within our society.

Our journalists need to do a MUCH better job at reporting the facts and presenting balanced reflections of the goings on within our communities.
